Richard Akpokavie has been appointed the new president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).
Akpokavie secured 44 votes, defeating his opponent Michael Aggrey, who received 19 votes.
The victory marked a significant turnaround for Akpokavie, who had lost the presidential race four years ago by a margin of seven votes to the then-incumbent Ben Nunoo Mensah.
However, Richard Akpokavie served as the General Secretary of the GOC from 2017 to 2021 before challenging Ben Nunoo Mensah in the 2021 presidential election.
During his athletic career, Akpokavie captained Ghana’s national hockey team.
