The investigative committee set up by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh to probe the Ridge Hospital incident involving social media activist Ralph Saint Williams has dismissed claims that a nurse sustained a fractured wrist and dislocated shoulder.
This follows the alleged assault in which a rotational nurse, Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, claimed she sustained injuries to her arm, shoulder, waist, and other parts of her body, and continues to suffer chest pains, severe headaches, and panic attacks caused by Ralph.
However, presenting the committee’s findings in Accra on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Chairman Dr. Lawrence Ofori-Boadu said the alleged victim, Ms. Rejoice Tsotso Bortei, a rotation nurse, only reported her injuries a day after the incident. She later received medical attention.
“There was no evidence of fracture on her left wrist or dislocation of her right shoulder joint, as documented by the medical records,” Dr. Ofori-Boadu noted.
He added that the nurse was given pain medication, advised to rest, and has since been placed under psychological support.
The committee also rejected claims by Ralph Saint Williams that patients at the hospital’s Emergency Ward suffered delays in receiving care.
The findings pointed to systemic challenges at Ridge Hospital’s emergency unit. The report cited “grossly inadequate” security, revealing that only one private guard was stationed per 12-hour shift despite the high volume of patients.
It also noted that the existing police post was located far from the emergency unit, limiting rapid response to incidents.
The committee recommended strengthening hospital security, recruiting additional clinical and customer care staff, repairing broken diagnostic machines, and expanding secondary-level facilities to ease pressure on Ridge.
Meanwhile, Nurse Bortei has already filed a civil suit against Ralph Saint Williams, seeking GH₵7 million in damages for alleged assault and defamation.
