Samson Deen, President of both the African and Ghana Paralympic Committees, paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah to strengthen national collaboration in disability sports.
The meeting at the NSA headquarters marked the beginning of a new collaborative effort as Ghana prepares to host the AfPC Elective Congress and the inaugural Open Para Sports and Classification Festival in November 2025.
Mr. Deen emphasized Ghana’s pivotal role in driving the growth of para sports across Africa, stressing the urgent need for inclusive infrastructure, robust athlete development programs, and improved access to athlete classification across the continent.
“Africa’s para athletes are talented but structurally underserved. With Ghana taking the lead in hosting a continental classification festival, we’re not just creating opportunities we’re correcting historic inequalities,” Samson Deen stated.
Mr. Deen disclosed that international classifiers and delegations from various countries have already been engaged, noting strong interest and support from diplomatic missions, including the Spanish Embassy.
He further requested the NSA’s support in securing key venues like the Borteyman Complex and University of Ghana Stadium, as well as the provision of technical personnel to assist with the festival’s logistics.
