Sanitopia CIC on a mission to build 10,000 Sanitation projects across Africa

Sanitopia CIC,  a UK-headquartered Community Interest Company (CIC), is leading a transformative campaign to enhance access to safe, clean, and sustainable sanitation across Africa.

Founded by Mr Richard Kojo Acheampong, a distinguished lawyer, entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist, Sanitopia CIC was established with a bold vision to make access to safe and clean sanitation a fundamental right for every child. Sanitopia CIC is constructing modern facilities that promote health, dignity, and education within underserved communities.

The organisation’s mission directly addresses some of the most pressing challenges affecting public health, education, and gender equality across the continent.

With an ambitious goal to complete 10,000 sanitation projects by 2035, Sanitopia is working to reduce the spread of diseases, empower girls to stay in school, and improve the overall quality of life in rural and urban communities. The company’s efforts align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6).

Unlike many infrastructure projects that struggle with sustainability, Sanitopia’s model is built on community engagement, transparency, and accountability. Each project is developed with inclusive participation and robust management practices to ensure long-lasting impact and local ownership.

Operating primarily in Ghana and expanding into other African nations, Sanitopia CIC seeks to redefine what community-driven infrastructure looks like, positioning itself as a construction company driven not by profit, but by purpose and people.

Its work extends beyond building sanitation blocks; the organization is committed to creating safe, inclusive community spaces that inspire empowerment, dignity, and better living conditions for all.

Sanitopia’s leadership believes that access to proper sanitation is not a privilege but a basic human right,  one that underpins health, equality, and sustainable development.

As part of the foundation’s effort to transform sanitation, Sanitopia CIC demonstrated its commitment to this mission through a life-changing project at Nkonya Senior High School in Ghana’s Oti Region.

Moved by the dire sanitation conditions they observed, the Sanitopia team took decisive action to improve hygiene and safety for students. The organisation spearheaded the construction of a modern 12-seater toilet facility designed exclusively for the girls’ dormitory.

The project also saw the completion of an abandoned washroom block that was started by the government. To enhance accessibility, the new facility features a roofed walkway that connects directly to a 25-unit washroom, ensuring students can move comfortably even during heavy rains.

The initiative has brought a renewed sense of pride, dignity, and confidence to the Nkonya Senior High School community. Female students now have access to clean, safe, and functional sanitation, a crucial step toward improving health and supporting consistent school attendance.
