The Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has debunked allegations that the recently dismissed National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) board member, Ann Sansa Daly, was the personal physician of former President John Dramani Mahama.
Ann Sansa Daly’s appointment to the NHIA Board was abruptly revoked within days, sparking widespread public debate.
Concerns quickly emerged from sections of the medical community regarding her professional legitimacy, including questions about her certification to practise medicine in Ghana.
Her regular appearances on television offering medical advice have since come under heightened scrutiny, with critics arguing that her credentials had not been adequately vetted prior to her appointment.
In a statement dated May 23, the Presidency announced the nomination of Professor Dr. (Med) Ernest Yorke, current Vice President of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), to replace Daly on the NHIA Board. He is expected to be sworn in soon.
Although the official communication did not specify the reason for Ms. Daly’s removal, sources close to the matter suggest that sustained pressure from healthcare professionals and civil society organizations played a decisive role.

The Ministry of Health has since clarified that Daly was never officially sworn into office.
In a media interview, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated categorically that there is no personal or professional relationship between Ms. Daly and the former President.
He described the claim as part of a broader misinformation campaign allegedly propagated by elements within the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He urged the public to remain cautious about politically motivated disinformation, particularly from opposition circles.
“It is entirely false to suggest that Sansa Daly was President Mahama’s personal doctor—absolutely never. I know the President’s physician personally, and he is a well-respected, experienced medical professional who has served him for years. This lady has no affiliation with him whatsoever,” Kwakye Ofosu asserted.
“The NPP is notorious for circulating fake news. These types of baseless claims should not be given any attention. I speak with full confidence that Ms. Daly has no connection to President Mahama,” he added.
