Another Ghanaian has been found dead in New York, days after the tragic death of 15-year-old Javits in the Bronx, with Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations visiting the family of the latest victim to offer condolences.
In a statement dated Wednesday, November 4, 2026, the Mission said its officials had visited the family of 24-year-old Joseph Owusu, whose death under unexplained circumstances was reported to his mother, Mavis, on Saturday, October 31.
The delegation, led by Deputy Permanent Representative Ben Dotsei Malor and Consul-General Anthony El-Ada, undertook the visit on the directive of Ghana’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Samuel Yao Kumah.
The Mission said the visit was also on behalf of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, who had contacted the bereaved family to express his condolences and assure them of the government’s support.
“I have been shocked and saddened by this tragic news, especially coming on the heels of the horrible news of the killing of 15-year-old Javits, also in the Bronx, New York,” the minister said.
He assured the family that the Government of Ghana would work with relevant authorities and agencies of the United States Government to ensure that justice is served.
Owusu, a caregiver who supported persons with disabilities, also served as a chorister at his local Methodist church. His family described him as a beloved son and brother whose death had left them and their community devastated.
His brother, Kwadwo, has called for a thorough and transparent police investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and for those responsible to be brought to justice.
The Mission said police had informed the family that an autopsy was being conducted as investigations into the case continued.
