Scores of shippers have been sensitised Tuesday, 5th March, 2019 at the ongoing trade fair in Accra on the roles played by various regulatory agencies in facilitating their businesses in the shipping and logistics chain.
Representatives from the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA)-Customs Division, Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Ghana Standards Authority (GSA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) educated the shippers about the respective roles they play in ensuring trade competitiveness.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA), Ms Benonita Bismarck said the seminar was held in partnership with the 23rd Ghana International Trade Fair with the objective of making Ghana’s international trade more competitive.
“Today, the Authority is standing in partnership with the 23rd Ghana International Trade Fair by holding this seminar to educate our shippers on the key roles of these bodies and effective ways and methods to reduce some of the bottlenecks associated with the clearing of cargo with the objective of facilitating trade and making Ghana’s international trade more competitive,” she said
This was contained in a speech read on her behalf by the Deputy CEO, Ms Sylvia Asana Dauda-Owu.
Ms Bismarck said it was imperative that shippers know the regulations as well as the processes of shipping their products in order to meet international standards and make them very competitive.
The Government of Ghana has initiated 10 pillars of industrial transformation agenda aimed at transforming the country’s economy from over reliance on the importation of goods and on international aid.
This, she said “can only be achieved if emphasis is placed on hard work to improve on international trade volumes, more efficient port operations and better infrastructure across the logistics chain.”
The seminar was organised by the Ghana Shippers’ Authority under the theme “Ensuring the Competitiveness of Ghana’s International Trade: The Role of Regulatory Agencies and Shippers.”
