The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, CHASS is demanding a blue print for the implementation of the Free Senior high school policy.
The blueprint, according to the President of CHASS, Cecilia Kwakye Cofie, would guide school heads to effectively implement the free SHS in all public schools.
Madam Kwakye Cofie made the comment while addressing the 55th national conference of CHASS ongoing at the Mawuli School in Ho in the Volta region.
She indicated that the blueprint referred to as the ‘free SHS bible’ will help school authorities not overstep their bounds in ensuring the success of the policy.
Over 400,000 prospective SHS students are expected to benefit from the flagship policy which kick starts next week.
In this regard, the CHASS President declared the group’s total support for the policy and announced their commitment to its implementation.
According to her, it is not only parents who are elated about the introduction of the policy, which was a key campaign promise of the now governing party, as its implementation would lift the burden of chasing students for their fees.
“Heads of schools are the happiest because the act of collecting school fees is a daunting task,” she stated and tasked her colleagues to ensure the policy succeeds.
The CHASS President, however, urged government to release funds for the policy implementation as well as the subsidies for the second 2nd and 3rd-year students to ensure smooth running of the schools.
A Deputy Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Adu-Twum addressing the conference, said government has made available the needed funding and logistics for the rollout of the flagship education policy and assured the school heads to expect funds to hit their account by close of their conference on Friday.
He also indicated that the initial challenges experienced with placement system have been resolved, and admonish the school heads not to discriminate against any students place in their schools.
He also assured that the detail guidelines for the free SHS implementation would be made available to the schools in due course.
The 55th CHASS annual conference is on the theme, ‘Educational Reforms and Policies in Ghana; Effect on Society and the Way forward.”
