A 29-year-old woman has been arrested at Sowutuom in Accra, for allegedly setting her ex-boyfriend’s property on fire and stabbing him during a confrontation sparked by jealousy.
The suspect, identified as Augustina Adoma, according to the police in a statement dated Wednesday, July 2, was picked up by police after she reportedly attacked her former partner, 30-year-old Emmanuel Otabil, following a heated altercation over their broken relationship.
According to the Accra Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
The police investigations revealed that Ms. Adoma, who is currently unemployed, visited Mr. Otabil’s residence unannounced that morning.
Upon arrival, she discovered him with another woman.
Outraged by the discovery, Ms. Adoma allegedly poured a bucket of water over the pair and seized Mr. Otabil’s Samsung mobile phone before storming off.
However, the situation escalated later that day.
The police statement noted, “Later the same day at around 4:00 pm, the suspect reportedly returned to the victim’s residence in his absence. Using a duplicate key, she gained access to the kiosk and set fire to several items, including a mattress, carpet, blankets, and bedsheets.”
“A confrontation ensued later in the evening when the victim confronted the suspect about the incident and demanded the return of his phone. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly took a knife belonging to an orange seller and stabbed the victim in the left side of his chest.”
“The victim, who was initially rushed to Race Course Hospital, was later transferred to Lapaz Community Hospital and then to the University of Ghana Medical Centre, where he underwent emergency surgery. He is currently on admission and responding to treatment.”
Following police investigations, the stolen phone was recovered from the suspect, who was later arrested at the Tesano Police Station.
Ms. Adoma had reportedly gone there to submit a medical report in connection with a separate assault complaint she had filed against Mr. Otabil.
The police are currently investigating the matter.
