The National Sports Authority (NSA) Boss Dodzie Numokevor has refuted reports on social media that the Baba Yara stadium’s pitch is in a poor state two weeks ahead of the African Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.
Pictures of portions of the pitch at the Baba Yara stadium leaked on social media revealed the pitch in a deplorable state with a few days to the qualifier in September.
Speaking in an interview on THE GAME on GHOne TV, the NSA boss indicated that steps are being taken to prepare the grounds for the qualifier and that the trending pictures on social media do not depict the current situation of the pitch in Kumasi.
“That is not the current state. When an event is held at the stadium on the grass, it takes a while for us to take certain steps to re-change and restore the pitch. So I don’t think the pictures are what the current situation is”, he stated.
“Even when a pitch is ready for a match, and when the teams go for the halftime break, they still have to water the pitch, sometimes you still have to mow the grass, so as for pitch preparation it’s not an event but it is a process and that process is ongoing and we will be ready for Angola on September 5”.
“Look, we live in a country where we all know there are people who will jump on to Facebook to do anything to cause trouble. So we are aware of these things and it is normal”, he told GHOne TV.
The four-time African champions will face Angola on September 4, 2024, before traveling to Niger five days later.
