The 2022 cohort of the Graduate Trainee Program of Stanbic Bank Ghana has donated ten (10) Computers and other learning materials to the Lume-Avete Basic School in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region.

Morris Effah, the Graduate Trainee lead, said the team was inspired by a viral video depicting a teacher conducting an ICT class on a blackboard without computers. He said

“Our time, as graduate trainees at Stanbic Bank has been a very educational experience. Among the many things the bank has taught us, we have learned the importance of creating a positive impact in society. We are proud to have embarked on this project to support their vision of driving growth in Ghana. As young people, we understand the need for digital skills in the age we are in, that is why we decided to reach out and intervene to enhance their learning experience when we saw the video.”

Akorfa Takal, Head of Learning and Development at Stanbic Bank Ghana reiterated the bank’s commitment to drive Ghana’s growth through STEM education. She said

“Every child deserves access to digital resources in order to succeed and thrive in the 4th industrial revolution, and this is one of the things we can do as a Bank to impact their journeys and generations. It is our fervent hope that today’s gesture will help inculcate the love of STEM in all the pupils, especially girls at Lume Avete Primary School. We are certain these resources will be put to good use and ultimately facilitate practical ICT teaching and learning at this great school. To the pupils who are privileged to benefit from these computers from Stanbic Graduate Trainees today, it is our desire that this provides a base on which a positive story will be built”.

The Headmaster of Lume-Avete Basic School, Maxwell Baka, received the items on behalf of the school and expressed gratitude to the bank, noting that this intervention was timely given the introduction of a new curriculum heavily reliant on ICT.

The Stanbic Graduate Programme provides young individuals in Ghana with the chance to acquire valuable workplace experience and positions them on an accelerated path toward future leadership opportunities within the Bank. The program adopts a work-based approach to learning, offering participants a practical understanding of the Standard Bank Group’s operations.
