The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has made a breakthrough in the investigation into the assault of JoyNews journalist Latif Iddrisu, with the arrest of one suspect believed to be connected to the attack.
The suspect, identified as 55-year-old Theophilus Thompson, was picked up by police on the evening of Saturday, June 7, at approximately 5:00 p.m. in the James Town area of Accra.
The Police, confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday, June 8, that Thompson is currently in custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.
The incident occured on May 27, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., during a politically charged protest held outside the offices of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra.

The demonstration was organized by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including several Members of Parliament, to protest the arrest of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Latif Iddrisu, who was reporting from the scene, was allegedly attacked by a section of the demonstrators—a development that has since sparked nationwide outrage and renewed debate about the safety of journalists in Ghana.
The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to track down others involved in the incident.
