The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), has launched the 44th SWAG Awards Night in Accra.

The event is scheduled to come off on for Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The launch, which would see boxer Isaac Dogboe, Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey and former Black Stars defender Antony Baffoe vying for the Sports Personality of the Year, as well as 31 other individuals, nominated for various awards, from various disciplines and fields.

Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, President for SWAG noted that the awards ceremony was not about SWAG but the sports men and women, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year.

According to him, having MTN onboard tells of how much value is placed on the longest running awards ceremony in Ghana.

“This award is for those men and women who continue to toil in the harsh and sometimes horrible conditions in the country to raise the flag of Ghana high.

“That night is for them and I am hoping that on that night, we would deliver yet again wonderful and successful awards, aimed at honouring our gallant people”.

Mr Samuel Koranteng, Corporate Services Executive at MTN, said the SWAG Awards is a laudable project that needs to be held each year to honour the people, who have defied all odds to excel in their chosen fields.

According to him, sports has the tendency to place athletes on higher heights, which they must be encouraged to do more.

“We at MTN commend SWAG for the consistency in appreciating the sports men and women in Ghana and beyond, your works in developing sports despite the challenges is very commendable.

“We would continue to support SWAG in all their endeavours and make sure that each year the noble men and women are recognized for their contribution in making sure Ghana is always on the rise”.

The 44th SWAG Awards night would see thirty-four individuals being recognized for their works under the year of review as well as eleven organizations and sporting disciplines.
