The New Patriotic Party’s ‘Kandahar Boys’ in the Northern regional capital have harassed and locked out workers of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) as their targeted attacks on government agencies continue unabated.
Not even the presence of more than 30 armed police force could quell the attack on the public servants who were violently pushed out from their offices and their belongings locked inside with new locks.
Some top executives of the authority were also taken hostage for questioning by the group.
They were accused of looting and engaging in “illegal recruitment of NDC party supporters”.
The attackers took over the walled facility after going on rampage and law enforcers had hectic moments negotiating with the cudgel and sticks wielding gang.
The Police looked on while members of the group escorted workers out from offices and went ahead to change locks.
They retreated and agreed to disperse from the facility after five armed soldiers arrived but succeeded in stagnating the duties at the authority.
A Leader of the Kandahar Boys was heard saying: “they did that to us in 2009…We have even tried by allowing them to work and take salaries for two months. We don’t care about the police. We inhale tear gas and pepper spray.”
Sammy Damson, cooperate affairs manager of SADA told Starr News the violent takeovers of government agencies erode investors’ confidence.
“When things of this nature happen the investors ask themselves if it is the right place for investment, for me that is my problem.”
The group last Friday locked up other three state institutions in Tamale after beating out workers.
Minority leader, Haruna Iddirisu condemned the attacks and implored the police to intensity security measures.
