A three-member committee set up to investigate the disturbances at the Tamale Teaching Hospital on April 13, 2025, has submitted its report to the Minister of Health after a two-month probe.
The inquiry was triggered by the death of a 29-year-old man, which sparked public outrage over alleged medical negligence and malfunctioning critical equipment, and eventually led to the dismissal of the hospital’s CEO.
The 39-page report, which contains recommendations to enhance the hospital’s operational efficiency, will be made public in due course, according to the Ministry.
Presenting the findings, committee chairman Dr. Abdul Ibrahim Mohammed said the team held 12 sittings, engaging with the deceased’s family, friends, hospital staff, and key witnesses.
“We had a total of about 12 sittings where we met with the family of the patient, friends, staff of the hospital, who were actually within the Accident Emergency Department, and other staff who mattered in this issue,” he noted.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh assured the public of transparency, emphasizing that the report would be shared.
“This became an issue of public concern, but once the committee has sat on it and the report has been presented, the people of this country must know that the report has been presented,” he stated.
