The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has announced a temporary power interruption in parts of Kumasi and surrounding communities as part of works to connect a new power generation plant to the national grid.
In a statement issued dated Sunday, December 21, GRIDCo explained that the exercise is linked to the commissioning of the newly constructed AKSA Energy power plant at Anwomaso in Kumasi.
The plant is expected to add significant generation capacity and improve the reliability of electricity supply in the Ashanti Region once it becomes fully operational.
According to GRIDCo, the works involve the safe integration of the AKSA Anwomaso Generating Plant into the national power system through the 330kV Takoradi–Thermal–Anwomaso transmission line.
As part of this process, power supply to some customers in Kumasi and nearby areas may be temporarily interrupted.
The interruption, GRIDCo said, was expected to last for about three hours to allow for the safe termination and integration of the new substation. Power supply to all affected areas was projected to be fully restored by 11:00 p.m. on the same day.
GRIDCo apologised to residents and businesses for the inconvenience, stressing that the temporary disruption was necessary to ensure long-term stability and improved reliability of power supply in Kumasi and its environs.
