Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has urged new Members of Parliament (MPs) to prioritize Ghana’s interests over their political affiliations.
Addressing the new MPs during an orientation on January 11, 2025, Mr. Bagbin emphasized the need to focus on addressing the nation’s challenges.
“I want to urge you to stay focused and work assiduously towards solving the challenges facing our nation. That is the number one priority, not your political party or affiliations. It is very critical, and those of you who are not observant should refocus,” Bagbin stated.
He continued to emphasize the importance of advancing in their careers by prioritizing Ghana over partisan politics.
“Those who truly put Ghana first advance in politics, while those who are extremely partisan may rise within a particular regime but will collapse once that leader is no longer in power. After that leader’s tenure, you may become irrelevant”, Mr. Bagbin stated.
The orientation, a standard practice in Ghana’s Parliament, was designed to introduce the new Members of Parliament (9th Parliament) to the regulations and procedures of the Parliament, ensuring the smooth operation of parliamentary business. As the Speaker of the 9th Parliament, Bagbin’s leadership is expected to guide the house in addressing Ghana’s challenges and promoting national development.
