The National Youth Authority (NYA) has intensified its campaign against substance abuse in the North East Region, securing the endorsement of traditional leaders in the area.
On Monday, September 22, 2025, the Authority’s regional directorate organised a health walk in collaboration with the Nalerigu Youth Association (NAYA) as part of efforts to tackle the growing menace.

The event brought together youth groups, traditional leaders, and community members in a show of unity against drug abuse.
Speaking to Asaase radio on behalf of the Overlord, Naa Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sherigah II, Chief Sulemana Elijah Abdulai commended the NYA for championing the initiative.

“The Palace, the Nayiri, the elders and the subchiefs are grateful to the National Youth Authority and its regional branch for making this day possible, and for sending a strong signal to the youth on drug abuse,” he said.
The Nayiri, through his representative, noted that the Palace had long yearned for such an engagement with the youth. He described the campaign as both timely and necessary, warning that drug abuse posed a grave threat to the future of young people and demanded urgent action.

Chief Sulemana further stressed the Overlord’s commitment: “The Nayiri is solidly behind this venture. Looking at the consequences of drug abuse, we have to act. His message is brief and he backs everyone who is working to fight this menace so that we can redeem our youth.”
