Bawku town is reeling after a violent shooting left two tricycle operators dead on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, during a busy market day.
The incident has heightened tension in the town and surrounding communities.
According to eyewitnesses, the victims, residents of Bankango in the Binduri District, were on their way to meet a customer, identified as an Ibo man, near the Bawku Police Station when a group of young men confronted them.
Gunmen were reportedly called to the scene and opened fire, killing one victim instantly and injuring the other.
Both men were rushed to Vineyard Hospital in Bawku, where the injured individual later succumbed to his wounds.
The deceased have been identified as Salifu Shaibu and Asaana Mbawin. Police have launched an investigation into the attack.
