The University of Ghana has announced the successful resolution of a longstanding contractual dispute with Mulch Company Limited, formerly known as Pine Springs Company Limited, concerning the management of the University of Ghana Botanical Gardens. The resolution follows a legal process that upheld the University’s position, culminating in an agreement for Mulch Company Limited to cease its operations and vacate the premises by November 30, 2024.
The dispute traces back to 2009 when the University entered into an agreement with Pine Springs Company Limited for the renovation and management of the Botanical Gardens. However, over the years, the company failed to meet its contractual obligations, leading to protracted negotiations and eventual legal action.
After extensive proceedings, the University has regained full control of the Botanical Gardens. In a statement, the University expressed its commitment to preserving and enhancing the Gardens as a space for beauty, learning, research, and recreation. This initiative aligns with the University’s broader mission of promoting sustainability and environmental awareness.
Dr. Elizier Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs, reassured the public that the Legon Botanical Gardens will continue to serve as a green space for the community. Following necessary repairs and renovations, the Gardens are expected to reopen to the public, fulfilling their role as a vital ecological and recreational hub.
The University looks forward to reinstating the Gardens as a cornerstone of environmental education and a tranquil retreat for students, researchers, and visitors alike.
