Universal Merchant Bank has named Bernice Asabea Kissi Boateng as its new Group Head for Personal and Business Banking, a move signalling a renewed push to strengthen its position within Ghana’s competitive banking landscape.
The appointment forms part of the bank’s broader transformation drive, with a clear emphasis on building a high-performing leadership team and deepening its reputation as a customer-focused institution.
In her new capacity, Asabea will oversee key divisions including Commercial, SME, Consumer, and Prominence Banking. These units are central to the bank’s growth strategy, with expectations to drive market expansion, strengthen client relationships, and deliver tailored financial solutions across diverse customer segments.
She brings more than 20 years of experience across corporate, commercial, and investment banking, with a career marked by strong portfolio growth, complex deal execution, and leadership in structured and trade finance.
Before joining UMB, she held senior roles at Access Bank Ghana, where she served as Sector Head for Corporate Banking and later led Financial Institutions within the Investment Banking division, contributing significantly to business growth and major transactions.
Her professional journey also includes roles at GCB Bank, Bank of Baroda Ghana, and Intercontinental Bank Ghana, where she built expertise in operations, treasury management, and customer service.
An alumna of St. Rose’s Senior High School, Akwatia, she holds a BA in Social Sciences and a Commonwealth Executive MBA from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, alongside extensive professional training in finance and strategy.
