V/R: Adaklu District gets new Chief Executive

The third District Chief Executive (DCE) nominee for the Adaklu District in the Volta region, Mrs. Juliana Kpedekpo has been approved by members of the Assembly on Monday.

Mrs. Juliana Kpedekpo secured 17-Yes votes as against 2-No votes to be confirmed having failed to secure the two-thirds majority of votes at her first attempt a month ago.

The Adaklu District until Monday, was the only District out of 18 in the Volta region without a DCE, following the rejection of all nominees of President Akufo-Addo.

The immediate past DCE, Phanuel Kadey Donkor failed on two different occasions to secure the needed votes to be retained as the DCE for the area while another nominee, Bright Kwame Nyatsikor, a Constituency Secretary of the NPP for Adaklu was outrightly rejected on two counts when he was nominated by the President.

After her confirmation on Monday, the new DCE, Juliana Kpedekpo told the media that she is committed to the development of the area and would do so in with the traditional authorities and other relevant stakeholders in Adaklu.

She said, “The journey to this point hasn’t been easy and so there is no way we are going to relax and not try to work hard to help the system -in terms of our socio-economic development, education, health care, gender issues, water and agriculture. These are the things on my heart, that I really would want to work on so that tomorrow maybe, should I also leave office, at least, that legacy can be there.”

“I am willing to go all out with the Chiefs. Of course, they are the custodians of the land and there is no way you could go pass them to make things work for you. You’ve to involve them, I am ready to work with them, I will approach them, seek their guidance and advice, so that together we can make sure that government policies are successfully implemented within Adaklu,” she added.

The Adaklu District is known for its resilience for rejecting DCE nominees deemed disrespectful, incompetent and alien to the developmental needs of the area.

Mrs. Juliana Kpedekpo’s confirmation means that the Volta region now has two female DCEs out of a total 18 MDCEs.
