The Adaklu Health Directorate in the Volta region has received support from the MP for the area, Kwame Governs Agbodza towards the operationalization of a newly built Health Centre at Adaklu Dave.
The MP has presented the Directorate with medical equipment worth GHS30,000.
The items include a delivery bed, a hospital bed, drip stand, three gun thermometers, a glucometer, mackintosh, ward screens, plaster aprons, suturing set.
Others include an adult weighing scale, BP apparatus, examination bed, a foetal doppler, dressing set, 10 galipot m, 10 kidney dishes, a bed pan and a fridge thermometer.
At a short ceremony held at the Health Directorate at Adaklu Tsrefe, the MP indicated that access to healthcare delivery in the area has increased following a drastic improvement in the provision of health infrastructure in the area.
According to him, Twelve (12) more health facilities have been built in communities across the District bringing the numbers to Eighteen (18) since the inauguration of the District in 2012.
Despite this significant improvement, the MP believes the area still needs a District hospital for efficient, effective and timely service delivery.
“Though the situation has improved, we are not where we want to be yet, a brighter day will come when we have a district hospital,” he noted.
Mr. Agbodza also urged the government now and in the future to make budget provisions for medical equipment whenever a new health facility is being built so as not to burden the health directorates with such challenges.
He said, “When we award contracts for projects in the health sector normally, we don’t add equipment. In fact, even if the government builds they hardly budget for equipment and it becomes a burden on the health directorates to look for equipment. I think it is appropriate that from now whilst we do this, we should automatically add the cost of equipment.”
Following the arrival of the equipment, the Dave Health Centre is expected to be opened for operations in the coming days to improve upon service delivery in the catchment area.
The District Health Director, Mr. Charles Azagba in his address applauded stakeholders in the District for their continuous support and contributions toward healthcare delivery.
He announced that these efforts have contributed to an increase in OPD attendance from 17,000 in 2013 to a figure above 43,000 as of 2021.
