As part of the government’s efforts to rebirth Technical and Vocational skills in the country, some 40 young men and women have benefited from articraf training.
The training was organised by the National Youth Authority (NYA) in collaboration with Ghana’s giant communication network company MTN in the Volta Regional capital Ho.
The beneficiaries were taken through 10 days’ intensive training in beads making, makeups and digital marketing and entrepreneurship.
Speaking to Starrfm.com.gh after a short graduation ceremony held for the trainees, the Volta Regional Minister Dr Archibald Letsa who graced the event said providing job for the teeming youth is government’s key interest. “Government is very much interested in the technical and vocational education and the National Youth Authority thought it wise to organise these skills training sessions to empower our young people so that they can engage in income generating activities for themselves.”
He lauded NYA and MTN for their support in tackling unemployment saying, “if you don’t have skills that can get you employed in the public sector at least you can learn something good for yourself so we believe this is a humble beginning of private businesses today.”
The Volta Regional Director of the National Youth Authority, Yao Semorde observed that the NYA is proud giving hope to people, saying: “We want young people who cannot afford to go to school or who don’t have the mental capacity to work to also come to skills training so that they can learn this artisanal skills or livelihood which they can apply to their lives.”
Mr Semorde also took the opportunity to lament the attitude where everyone wants to do white cola jobs shunning technical and vocational skills.
Mr Semorde indicated that there will be monitoring measures to ensure the beneficiaries are putting what they learnt into practice.
In all, 20 of them were trained in makeup making, 10 into digital marketing and entrepreneurship, 10 also in beads making and they were all drawn from the Ho Municipality.
