As part of effeorts to whip up youth participation and involvement in local development, Plan International Ghana in collaboration with some NGOs has organized a comprehensive training sessions for some youth in the South Tongu District of the Volta.
A total of 35 persons from across the district participated in the training workshop held at Sogakope.
The training program forms part of a project dubbed “Youth for Change” which is being led by Graynetwork, a non-governmental organization.
The training focuses on budget advocacy, with the sole objective to organize, mobilize and equip the beneficiaries with knowledge and skills in budget analysis, monitoring of budgetary allocations and expenditures for youth development especially at the Municipal District Assembly levels.
The training is also expected to ensure active participation of the youth in all matters of development by demanding transparency and accountability from government and other duty bearers in their various localities.
Executive Director for Graynetwork, lead implementers of the project, Godsway Mensah told Starrfm.com.gh that the “training is an eye opener that will eventually bring development to the doorsteps of the local people.”
He explained that, “the youth have a role to play in ensuring that duty bearers are transparent and accountable to the people.”
A participant, Venunye Setiam remarked that, “I have learnt a lot from this program. Now, I know the various schedules for budgeting at the District level and the right time to demand for a certain development project and how to ensure allocations are made for such demands.”
The training program is currently underway in the Hohoe Municipality with more youth expected to be equipped.
