Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has reiterated Ghana’s strong commitment to advancing gender equality, urging concrete actions to empower women and girls across all sectors of society.
Speaking at the 2025 Women’s Dialogue in Accra, held as part of International Women’s Day celebrations, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang emphasized the need for inclusive and sustained efforts to promote women’s leadership, economic empowerment, and educational access.
International Women’s Day, observed annually on March 8th, celebrates women’s vital contributions to society while highlighting the ongoing challenges they face.

The Vice President highlighted that while the 30 percent women’s representation quota outlined in the law is significant, true progress lies in creating meaningful opportunities that inspire and uplift young girls.
“We are steadfast in our commitment to advancing women’s empowerment and achieving greater gender equality,” she stated. “The Affirmative Action Law is a pivotal moment, and it is up to us all to seize these opportunities for the greater good of our country and its women.”
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s remarks is an indication of Ghana’s journey toward gender equality requires both legal reforms and practical, impactful actions that make a difference in the lives of women and girls.
