Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on Wednesday led a high-level government delegation to visit the families of the eight individuals who died in a tragic Ghana Air Force helicopter crash earlier in the day.
The Vice President, accompanied by senior government officials, National Democratic Congress (NDC) executives, and members of the Military High Command, formally informed the bereaved families and extended condolences on behalf of the government.
According to an official update issued by Presidential Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Vice President visited the homes of Environment Minister Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Limuna.
Another team, led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, visited Koforidua to console the family of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.

Two additional teams were dispatched to Takoradi and other locations to reach the families of the three military crew members – Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – as well as NDC Vice Chairman, Dr. Samuel Sarpong and former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, who also perished in the crash.
The Z9 military helicopter, which was flying from Accra to Obuasi, reportedly lost contact with radar shortly after takeoff and crashed in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region. All eight individuals onboard died.

The government has declared three days of national mourning beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025, and has directed that all national flags fly at half-mast until further notice.
