The Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has firmly stated that Ghanaian chiefs will no longer endure a presidency like that of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV, he criticized the outgoing president’s approach towards traditional rulers, describing it as a disappointing legacy for the presidency.
“A good friend of mine, who is also a chief, told me once, ‘Let’s see if he will come around and instruct chiefs to stand up to greet him.’ It’s not a good legacy,” Nana Boadi shared, referring to instances where chiefs were reportedly compelled to display undue deference to President Akufo-Addo.
His comments come as traditional leaders and citizens reflect on the administration’s record and its impact on Ghana’s cultural and social progress.
The Krontihene voiced his dissatisfaction with the president’s failure to build mutual respect and understanding between the government and the chieftaincy institution.
“He could have done more,” Nana Boadi lamented, expressing regret over missed opportunities to enhance Ghana’s traditional governance structures.
He also urged Ghanaians to critically evaluate the leadership qualities necessary for future presidents, stating, “We pray we don’t get another Akufo-Addo to be president of Ghana.”
Nana Boadi further lamented the state of the nation, claiming it has been severely harmed by corrupt practices, leaving Ghana in a dire situation.
“Ghana has been stripped naked; mother Ghana is bleeding,” he said.
Drawing on the biblical parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:29, he emphasized the need for urgent intervention to restore and rebuild the nation.
“The robbers have stolen all the goodies. But a Good Samaritan has come to rescue her, put her in a healthy and happy situation, and recover the loot that the robbers took,” he added.
Nana Boadi expressed confidence in former President John Mahama’s potential comeback, seeing it as a divine plan.
“We thank God that the good Lord is about to give the mantle to President John Mahama,” he said, highlighting Mahama’s leadership as a potential solution to the country’s challenges.
