The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri has disclosed that he never believed that President John Dramani Mahama would ever be president of Ghana again.
Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, who doubles as the Minority Chief Whip in Parliament, said his belief stems from what people were saying about Mr. Mahama.
“I never believed, I never thought President Mahama would be President again, and I have eaten my humble pie because of the margin by which he won. I realized that God can do anything. Because of what I was seeing in the country and the feedback I was getting.
“People said that, well, for what he did and for what we have known him for, it’s not a risk we would want to take. That is why I am saying you should never say never”, Mr. Dompreh stated.
Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, however, indicated that he would support former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the next presidential elections.
He explained that it would be unfair not to give the former vice president a second chance.
According to him, he respects the former Assin Central lawmaker, Kennedy Agyapong, but he will still go for Dr. Bawumia to lead the NPP.
“I respect Kennedy Agyapong. He is a good man and a true blue-party person, but I will still support Dr. Bawumia for the Presidency. I think it would be most unfair to leave Dr. Bawumia because, in our tradition, nobody has won the Presidency at once.
“President Akufo-Addo himself three times, President Kuffour himself two times, so I think it will be most unfair, but I respect Kennedy Agyapong,” Mr. Annoh-Dompreh stated.
