Vigilante talks: Asiedu Nketia breaching trust – NPP

The New Patriotic Party has chastised General Secretary for the National Democratic Congress Johnson Asiedu Nketia for his comments following the first vigilante mediation talks.

Mr. Nketia after the first meeting Tuesday granted media interviews detailing proceedings during the meeting, a move the governing party sees as inimical to the talks.

According to the NPP, all parties had agreed that any communication from proceeding will be done via a communique which was signed by all parties, and the NPC.

Speaking to the media, NPP Communications Director and MP for Adenta Yaw Buaben Mensah said  the NDC Gen. Sec. was interpreting his own facts and breaching trust.

“How can an eminent politician, a veteran politician like Asiedu Nketia go round saying things that indeed I can just say is an interpretation of his own facts? He wants to impose his set of facts on the nation and it is not fair. I will not go down that lane, I will not breach the trust except to tell him that if he continues that way he will break the talks down,” he said.

“That is totally below the belt, that is totally unacceptable because it goes totally against the rule of engagement. We were told and we asked before we were told that we were going to communicate singularly through the communique. We engaged and argued the communique for over an hour and got it word perfect and it was signed by the two chairmen and it was signed by no less an eminent person than Nana Professor SKB Asante who chaired for the day,” he complained.

Mr Asamoah also suggested that the NDC is out to breakdown the talks.

“He is acting in bad fate, because from day one, when the invitation was thrown, they’ve sort to throw spanners in the works. At the point where in this peaceful country where we not fighting they wanted to bring us U.S peacekeepers and ECOWAS and all that in here. Yesterday they were talking about bringing in land-guards and Fulani herdsmen to come and discuss this matter. It is not right it is bad faith.

“I want the people of Ghana to punish any political party that pretends to be committed to this and who in truth are not committed. Any political party who opts out of this talks should be punished by electoral rejection. Any political party who pretends and tries to bring macho men and violence in to the next election should be punished by rejection, he urged.”
