Applicants seeking to register at the New Juaben South Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Eastern Region were stranded due to issues with malfunctioning registration machines.
Many hopeful voters arrived at the office only to find themselves unable to complete the registration process.
As of 10:30 a.m., none of the initial voters who turned up had successfully registered.
Frustration was evident among the stranded applicants, who expressed concern over the delay and uncertainty surrounding the registration process.
“I have been able to fill the form passed through the process but where they take the picture and upload into the system they say the system is down. It has affected me I even have to take my medicine so I have to go and find something to eat so that I take my medicine. So it has really taken much of my time “said Ayariga one of the applicants.
The New Juaben South Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Kofi Asante Owusu, stated that the issue had been communicated to the headquarters, and they were hopeful the problem would be resolved soon.
The Electoral Commission’s limited voter registration exercise began today, Tuesday, May 7, and is expected to last for 21 days, ending on May 27, 2024.
This exercise is targeted at first-time voters and those who wish to obtain a voter card.
The exercise aims to register approximately 623,000 first-time voters across the country.
New Juaben South has one registration center at Koforidua Technical University (KTU) and a mobile registration team for had-to-reach areas in addition to the Municipal officer registration centers.
