The West African Examination Council is appealing to parents to collaborate in addressing examination malpractices, which have resulted in some results from the recently concluded 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) being withheld.
This appeal follows incidents where some angry parents accompanied their wards to assist with ongoing investigations into suspected examination irregularities.
The parents argue that the delay in releasing the results is jeopardizing their children’s academic futures.
Speaking to Starr News on the back of this, Director of Public Affairs at the West African Examination Council, John Kapi, called on parents to help eradicate such malpractices.
“I believe this should be a collaborative effort, not a situation of parents versus WAEC or WAEC versus parents. Our goal is to ensure that candidates receive the grades they truly deserve, not grades obtained through dishonest means. These results are not the end goal in themselves; candidates will use these certificates to pursue further studies.”
“Are you confident that you truly deserve admission to further studies? We operate in a way that maintains the value of the certificates we issue. We don’t just hand out certificates to anyone who copied or cheated. We must protect the integrity of the examinations we conduct and the certificates we award.”
