A former Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central Constituency, Inusah Fuseini, has expressed his disappointment with the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss the Speaker of Parliament’s application to set aside its orders.
According to the Apex Court, the grounds of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s application for it to set aside its October 18, 2024 order lacked merit. The Court further stated that it would be a misapplication and misinformation for the applicant (Speaker) to argue that the Supreme Court lacks jurisdiction.
Speaking on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah and Tutuwaa Danso, the former Ranking Member of the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, accusing the Supreme Court and its judges of bias.
“We expect judges to behave in a certain way, consistent with standard judicial practices. We expect judges to uphold the rule of law. We expect judges to be fair and candid,” he stated.
He further commented on the public’s perception of the judiciary, suggesting that recent rulings reveal the partisan nature of the judicial system.
“In this particular matter, people have seen the partisan color of our judges. If they had done otherwise, I would have hailed them,” he added.
When asked if he would have maintained his stance had the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Speaker, Inusah Fuseini remarked, “Well, I would have said that the judges are coming back to life.”
