The Minister-designate for Interior, Muntakah Mohammed Mubarak has vowed to introduce body cameras for police officers as part of measures to ensure transparency and accountability in law enforcement.
“We must ensure strict adherence to use of Body Cameras to foil harassment and abuse of civilians by security personnel on our roads to take away all the ambiguity and the troubles,” he declared.
Speaking at Parliament during his vetting, the Minister-designate emphasized the rising concerns of civilians being harassed and extortion of money from them on our roads.
To find a solution to this, Muntaka suggested the use of body cameras by police officers on official duties.
Muntaka stressed that the initiative would address concerns about police misconduct, including extortion and brutality.
“When you put the body camera on, everywhere you are, you are being recorded. So that when you are on the road extorting money and brutalizing others, it will show and record whatever the police officer is doing,” he added.
