Fifty-five persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Jasikan Municipality in Buem have received life-changing support through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), aimed at enhancing their livelihoods and promoting economic independence.
The beneficiaries were presented with various essential items including fufu mills, freezers, a cassava mill, as well as direct financial assistance.
These resources are expected to help recipients start or expand small businesses, improve household income, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams said the initiative forms part of the government’s continuous effort to empower persons with disabilities across the country, ensuring equal opportunities and sustainable development for all.
“As part of President Mahama’s policy, this year we have disbursed 88 per cent of the monies disbursed to district and metropolitan assemblies. It used to be 40 per cent but this year we have done 88 per cent. So the more the percentage to be disbursed increases, the higher the allocation to persons with disability fund will increase”. He stated.

According to him, in 2026, “8.9 billion will be allocated to the district assembly common fund and the percentage to the disability fund has been increased also from 3 percent to 5 percent. That means more persons with disabilities will benefit from the common fund by government “.

“We understand that persons with disabilities face unique obstacles, but we also see the incredible potential within each of you. It’s is our responsibility as a municipal assembly to eliminate barriers and foster an environment where everyone can thrive irrespective of race, color or ability”. He stated.
Local authorities expressed optimism that the intervention will significantly improve the living conditions of beneficiaries and strengthen social inclusion within the municipality.
