620 Head Porters graduate from Kayayei Skills Empowerment Programme

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) Abigail Swad Laryea has called on the 5th Cohort of the Kayayei Skills Empowerment Program to practicalize the skills they have acquired during the program.

During the graduation ceremony of 620 graduates of the 5th cohorts of the Kayayei Empowerment Program, Abigail Swad Laryea said the program is not merely about teaching employable skills to head porters but also offering hope, providing a safe haven, and nurturing lifelong dreams.

“Today marks the 5th graduation of this very innovative journey of empowerment and transformation for our remarkable young women, As we gather here to celebrate the graduation of the participants of the Kayayei Skills Empowerment Programme, we are not only witnessing the culmination of three weeks of skills training, but the dawn of new beginnings, courage, and the promise of s brighter future”, she said.

She reminded also the gathering that the project is the brainchild of his excellency the Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia adding that his desire is to see this great vision come to fruition.

Additionally, she commended the dedication and resilience of the graduates.

“Each one of them has embarked on a joumey of self-discovery and growth, overcoming challenges that many of us can only imagine. They have not only acquired valuable vocational skills that will create for them a sustainable livelihood but have also shown immense strength in reclaiming their dignity and paving their path away from the dangers of the streets” she added.

The 5th cohorts brings a cumulative number of 3000 Kayayei trained under the vocation business modules of the Kayayei Empowerment Program.

According to NEIP, the training will continue through November.

In all, the 5th cohort is made up of 620 graduands including 190 in soaps and detergents making, 92 in make-up, 194 in baking, 42 in manicure, pedicure, and nails, 28 in beads making, and 40 in decoration.
