I’m not behind attack on Asunafo South MP – Failed NPP parly aspirant

L-R: Eric Opoku and George Yaw Boakye

The 2016 parliamentary candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Asunafo South George Yaw Boakye has flatly denied accusation he masterminded the attack on the former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Eric Opoku.

According to him, he has nothing to do with the brutish attack the legislator endured from his assailants.

Mr. Opoku who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asunafo South was viciously attacked by some unknown gunmen in December last year.

Armed with a local pistol and machetes, the legislator’s attackers went berserk when they stormed his residence destroying seven vehicles including a Land Cruiser with registration number GT9449-14.

Speaking for the first time after the incident, in an interview with Starr News’ Parliamentary Correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan Mr. Opoku accused the NPP’s Boakye of orchestrating the heinous attacks.

“…These are people that I know very well…all those who perpetrated this act I know them and most of them are close relatives of the NPP candidate I defeated in the [2016 parliamentary election],” he stated.

When pushed further on the veracity of his claim, he insisted, “It is not that I suspected, I know he orchestrated it.”

But in a sharp rebuttal, Mr. Boakye dismissed the accusation against him.

“All what he is saying are not true. I have not sent anybody to his house and if they are known NPP members they [attackers] are not my children let alone send them,” he told Ibrahim.

“They maybe NPP members [but] that doesn’t mean they are for me and I can send them to go and attack people. It is not true. When somebody defeats you in an election, why should you send people to go and attack him?

“Do we have any impending election this year or next year? The only impending interest election is 2020 and it is about three years ahead. We have not even gone for our primaries and I don’t know whether I will be selected or not. Why should I send people to go and molest him or kill him…For what? God forbid,” he added.
