Two armed robbers have been shot dead by the Manso Nkwanta District Police command in the Ashanti region after they engaged the police in a brutal gun fight Tuesday dawn.

According to ACP Osei Kwame Ampofo Duku, the police had an information that five heavily armed robbers had planned to attack a popular gold dealer at Manso Nkwanta at the Agyagyekrom-Asuadei motor road.

According to the police, they picked up the information and laid ambush at the suspected robbery spot.

As the gold dealer approached the robbery spot, five robbers emerged from a nearby bush, with two of them wielding pump action guns and a locally manufactured pistol.

Two of the suspects immediately shot into the vehicle of the target but missed him narrowly.

The suspects noticing the presence of the police started shooting into the direction of the officers.

The police also returned fire resulting in the death of two of the suspects.

The other three armed robbers, however, managed to escape, while the remains of the deceased between the ages of 30 and 35 years have been deposited at the Agroyesun Hospital morgue for identification.

A locally made pistol, one BB cartridge and a knife were retrieved from the scene, ACP Ampofo Duku added at a news conference in Kumasi.
