The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital is introducing a bed management policy aimed at improving emergency cases at the facility.
The bed management policy will enable the hospital keep track of all beds at the various units at the facility.
A pilot of the policy is on-going at the medicals department of the hospital. The software was built for the hospital by Stanbic Bank Ghana.
Chief Executive Officer of Korle Bu, Dr. Felix Anyaa, told Accra-based Citi FM that the policy when fully operational will benefit the entire country.
“When the emergency room is full, the person will be admitted to any other ward…if it is a medical case, he can be admitted at the surgical ward, it’s the bed that is necessary.”
He explained that the professionals will leave the emergency room and go and treat patients where they have been given a bed.
Dr. Anyaa continued: “when the person fully recovers, then he is sent back to the appropriate unit. This will automatically be rolled out into other hospitals; which is efficient, modern-day bed management policy.”
Over the years, patients have been turned away over the unavailability of beds particularly at the emergency unit of the teaching hospital.
