Focus on NPP officials shielding kidnappers not Ampofo – NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Thursday urged the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service (CID) to concentrate on purging the governing New Patriotic Party and the government of criminals shielding kidnappers.

The NDC’s call come on the wake of the arrest of some eight individuals in connection to the kidnapping of two Canadian nationals in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.

Ghana’s security officials on Wednesday arrested eight persons for kidnapping two Canadian nationals volunteering in the country—5 persons out of the eight are Ghanaians and according to the NDC 4 out of the 5 are known members of the governing NPP.

“These thugs are associated with the New Patriotic Party’s vigilante and militia groups in the Ashanti region and we have always maintained the phenomenon of political party vigilantes could have the potential of dovetailing into full blown violent crimes,” the NDC’s Communications Director Sammy Gyamfi said on Thursday at a press conference.

“This is because criminals will always remain criminals irrespective of whether they are clothe in party colours or not.  The devil always finds work for the idle hand and after using these thugs for the purposes of winning elections, President Akufo-Addo and the NPP have abandoned them to fend for themselves.

“In their quest for survival in this difficult times resort to kidnapping has become a lucrative venture for them. Indeed, today the world has seen the true character of President Akufo-Addo and the NPP. They planted corn and hope to reap millets,” he added.

According to him, the arrest of the four exposed terribly the evil agenda of the government aimed at targeting the NDC’s National Chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who is on bail for allegedly being the brain behind the series of kidnappings and market fires across the country.

“Their evil agenda against the NDC and its chairman has backfired terribly. We now know who the real kidnappers are and so instead of hounding and harassing a gentleman, a responsible peace loving, law abiding citizen honourable Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who has served this country diligently for over 25 years in different capacities…instead of Tiwa Addo Danquah and IGP David Asante Appeatu to focus on this innocent man they should look into the New Patriotic Party.

“They should be questioning the likes of chairman Wontumi, the likes of Napo and other NPP leaders who are known as friends and masters of these kidnapping suspects. Those are the real criminals,” he stated.
