Morocco secured qualification to the 2019 AFCON’s next round after they registered an impressive 1-0 victory against Ivory Coast, thanks to Youssef En-Nesyri’s first half goal.
The Moroccans started on the front foot, when Nordin Amrabat dribbled past Ivory Coast’s midfield and sent a defence-splitting through pass towards En-Nesyri, who finished the ball calmly into the bottom corner in the 23rd minute.
Six minutes ahead of the halftime whistle, Hakim Ziyech advanced up the right flank and released En-Nesyri following a clever feint from Amrabat. Sylvain Gbohouo saved the striker’s low shot brilliantly to deny the Moroccans the second of the night.
The Atlas Lions continued to push forward and around the one-hour mark, Ziyech received the ball in the midfield and went up the pitch, but his long range effort went just wide over the crossbar.
In the dying moments of the game, Mbark Boussoufa crossed the ball towards Noussair Mazraoui, however, the substitute’s shot cannoned off the woodwork.
After the win, Morocco secured a spot in the 2019 AFCON’s next round as they top Group D with six points, meanwhile, Ivory Coast occupy the second spot with three points.
