Paris Saint-Germain delivered one of the standout performances of Match Day 3 of the UEFA Champions League, beating Barcelona 4-2, while Arsenal earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in two of the biggest fixtures across Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
The two matchdays produced plenty of goals, dramatic contests and surprise results, with Liverpool involved in a seven-goal thriller, Manchester United suffering a heavy defeat and Real Madrid recording an emphatic victory.
PSG outclass Barcelona in Paris
PSG underlined their status as one of the tournament favourites with a 4-2 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday. The French champions recovered from Barcelona’s response to take control late in the contest, with goals from Désiré Doué, Lucas Hernández, Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz sealing the win. Barcelona’s goals came from Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal.
The result leaves Barcelona with six points from three matches, having won their opening two games before suffering their first defeat of the league phase. PSG, meanwhile, maintained their perfect record with three wins from three matches.
Arsenal hold Bayern in Munich
Arsenal produced an important away performance to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
Eberechi Eze gave Arsenal the lead before Bayern responded through Alphonso Davies and Harry Kane, who converted a penalty. Declan Rice then rescued a point for the Gunners with a late equaliser.
Arsenal had to cope with an early setback when Bukayo Saka left the pitch with a knee injury. Despite that concern, Mikel Arteta’s side showed resilience to leave Munich with a valuable point.
Liverpool survive Villarreal scare as Real Madrid shine
Liverpool were involved in one of Tuesday’s most entertaining games, edging Villarreal 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. Alexis Mac Allister scored twice, while Ronald Araújo’s own goal and Florian Wirtz’s strike helped Liverpool secure all three points.
Real Madrid also impressed on Wednesday, defeating RB Leipzig 4-1 to maintain their 100 per cent record. The Spanish giants continued their strong start to the competition with another convincing performance.
Manchester United, however, endured a difficult night, losing 4-1 away to Como. Nico Paz starred for the Italian side with two goals and an assist, leaving United with work to do after another disappointing European outing.
