Northern Regional Minister Salifu Saeed has revealed that the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the region has no relief items for flood victims.
“It is sad to reveal that when we came into office, the new regional NADMO Director revealed that he met a very empty store at the regional level,” Hon. Salifu said.
Four people have been killed in the Northern region after days of torrential rain in the regional capital. Several properties have also been lost due to the flood.
But according to Hon. Salifu, the NADMO office in the region is empty and cannot take care of the affected victims.
He, however, added that they are mobilizing some logistics from institutions for the victims.
“When I contacted Metropolitan and Municipal Assembly, that is the metro assembly of Tamale and Sanarugu District Assembly their NADMO offices, their stores were virtually nothing to take care of this.”
“We are still relying on individuals and philanthropists to mobilize some aid for us to give to them,” he said in an interview on Radio Gold.
Residents in parts of the Tamale Metropolis gravely affected by floods are blaming the desertion of a stalled drainage project in the area for their predicament.
They therefore called on the government to as a matter of urgency complete work on the stalled project.
The devastating flood affected several communities including Gumani, Gumbihini, Kanvili and Fuo.
