A Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound facility in Koranteng Krachi in Afram Plains South District of the Eastern region is in a perilous condition exposing patients and staff to risk.
Despite the deplorable state of the mud-made building constructed by the community to serve as a health facility, the roofs also leak badly.
The leakages are too much that the entire consulting rooms and wards get flooded whenever it rains.
A video in possession of effort Starr FM captured a male nurse in charge of the facility place buckets under the leaking areas to collect the waters.
Healthcare delivery is, therefore, grounded to a halt whenever it rains. The situation becomes more depressing when pregnant women get into labour.
Koranteng Krachi CHPs facility serves about 10 surrounding communities.
Awudu Yakubu Modoc, Executive Director for Afram Plains Development Organization told Starr News the Afram Plains South District Assembly has not responded to urgent calls for the situation which has existed for a long time to be fixed.
He appealed to individuals and Corporate Ghana to support raise funds for rehabilitation of the facility in the meantime and subsequent construction of a befitting health center.

Are we anywhere closer to achieving SDG 3 ensuring Health and well-being and Goal 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth Looking at Koranteng Krachi CHPS situation are the people not being left behind. So we are appealing to Corporate Ghana to help us raised funds for rehabilitation and construction of this strategically position health facility to serve rural folks in this remotest part of Ghana”.
Kwahu Afram Plains South is faced with lots of challenges in the health sector.
The District has no Hospital, a health Center at Tease plays the role of a District hospital, therefore, refer cases to neighboring Afram Plains North.
There is also huge infrastructural gap making access to healthcare a challenge. The geographical characteristics comprise of island and remote rural communities with neither deplorable nor road access make it difficult for nurses and midwives as well as doctors to accept posting to the area.
Despite the inaccessibility of the communities logistics such as motorbikes are woefully inadequate for healthcare workers to operate.
