Reports have emerged detailing the circumstances surrounding the death of popular Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo.
News of the actor’s passing came as a shock to many of his colleagues in the Nigerian movie industry and fans across Africa.
Addressing growing speculation about the cause of death, Nollywood filmmaker Stanley Ontop disclosed that Alex Ekubo had allegedly been battling stage 4 liver cancer since 2024.
In a now-viral post shared on his Instagram page on Tuesday evening, Stanley Ontop revealed that the actor underwent a liver transplant during his treatment journey.
According to him, complications later developed after the transplanted liver reportedly failed, leading to a decline in the actor’s condition before his death.
He also appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information regarding the actor’s illness and passing.
“We request that everyone allow Alex to rest in peace and respect the privacy of his family during this difficult time,” he wrote.
“Alex was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2024. After undergoing treatment and a liver transplant, he briefly returned to work. Unfortunately, the liver failed again, and complications arose, and his condition deteriorated until his passing. His remains have been deposited at the morgue. May his soul rest in peace,” Stanley Ontop added.
Tributes have since begun pouring in from fans, actors, and entertainment personalities mourning the late actor’s passing.
