MTN Music Festival 2021 pumps up 25th anniversary celebration

Telecommunications giants, MTN pumped up the company’s 25-anniversary celebration with a sizzling show at the annual MTN Music Festival held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre at the weekend.

The event had a double dose of excitement for patrons as it also coincided with this year’s Farmer’s Day holiday on Friday, December 3.

The show started with a curtain-raiser performance by MTN Hitmaker alumnus Kofi Pages, followed by ‘Adunle’ hit-maker Abiana and ran seamlessly with back-to-back performances from tip-top singers, Kwabena Kwabena, KiDi, Kofi Kinaata and gospel big-name, Obaapa Christy.

Lynx Entertainment artiste, KiDi stepped on stage right after Abiana and dazzled the audience at the event venue as well as those online with his popular hits.

He performed to the relish of the patrons, songs like ‘Spiritual’, ‘One Man’, ‘Touch it’, ‘Enjoyment and ’‘Say Cheese’ and it was all cheers and dancing in the arena.

Obaapa Christy, dressed in a lovely white gown, started her ministration with her hit song, ‘Hyebre Sesafuo’, and then switched it up with songs like ‘Wagye Me’, ‘Me Ye Onyame Ba’, and a medley of some of her old hits, which kept the audience on their feet song after song.

Doing a string of smash songs from his repertoire, Kwabena Kwabena did not disappoint in keeping the audience up throughout his show-time on stage. The patrons’ response to songs like ‘Tuamudaa’ proved how much the highlife crooner is loved.

Another highlife artiste that turned up the heat at the programme was Dada K.D. In his velvety voice and composed demeanour on stage, he also dished out a spectacular performance. He left the stage for the ‘24th’ hit-maker, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, who turned the show into a jamboree.  The line-up of the veteran highlife artists was sealed with an appearance by the ‘Ashikele’ composer, George Jahraa who was as hot as ever.

Andy Dosty of Hitz FM sustained the vibe in the arena; warming up the revellers with the back-to-back booming of hit songs before the highly esteemed Kofi Kinaata took over the stage and literally killed the show with a string of popular songs from his collection.

The performances on the night flew on the wings of the ever-improving Hy-Skul Band, with Doreen Avio and Merqury Quaye as MCs.

Making music a central part of its 25th-anniversary celebration, MTN hosted the MTN Hitmaker All-Stars Concert and the MTN Stands In Worship programme prior to this very enthralling MTN Music Festival.
