Lawyers for investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Cromwell Gray LLP says the public should disregard reports that their client has been ordered to appear in court without his trademark face beads.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court presided over by Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie in a ruling on November 8, 2022 has ordered Anas Aremeyaw Anas to appear in open court to give evidence in the case against Kwasi Nyantakyi.
Reports were rife in the media that Anas has been ordered by the court to appear in open court without his iconic face beads.
But the lawyers for the investigative journalist in a Press release indicated that “Anas may choose to testify as prosecution witness or not.”
“The Star witness for the Republic, Ahmed Suale, who was one of the investigative journalists in respect of the documentary, was murdered in Madina, Accra weeks before his testimony could be taken.
“Anas Aremeyaw Anas agreed to testify in the stead of Ahmed Suale on condition that he be allowed to do so in camera or in chambers,” the lawyers explained in its press release dated November 8, 2022.
The Ace investigative journalist in his documentary #Number 12 which exposed some rots in Ghana Football and led to the then GFA president Kwasi Nyantakyi, losing his position and subsequently being banned by FIFA.
