Chief Justice Kwasi Anin-Yeboah has commissioned Asesewa District Court complex to improve justice delivery in the area.

The projects is part of courthouses and accompanying residential facilities for Magistrates being built nationwide by government through funding from the district assembly common fund.

Commissioning the Asesewa District Court complex in the Eastern Region, the Chief Justice His Lordship Kwasi Anin-Yeboah commended President Akufo Addo and the Administrator of Common fund for the policy intervention in fulfilment of the Local Governance Act 2016 (Act 936) which stipulates that provision of court houses and accomodations for judges and magistrates is the responsibility of the district assemblies.

He said for democracy to thrive, there should be an efficient and viable judiciary therefore with the support of government efforts are underway to address deplorable state of existing physical infrastructure as well as the obsolete equipment and technology, and prove the human resource capacity to advance justice delivery in the country.

“Concrete measures have been instituted to fix the infrastructural and human resources needs to improve efficiency and rich adjudication process .These and many others in the pipeline are geared toward providing an enabling environment for access to justice , the rule of law , transparency and speedy administration of justice to thrive”

He continued that “these reforms among others seek to remove the barriers of distance which impacts negatively on justice delivery when farmers and our brothers and sister have to travel very far to access justice. We are not only bringing justice closer to the doorsteps of the people within this area but also ensuring that justice delivery is done in a more congenial atmosphere.”

He called on residents to use the court systems especially Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) which has proven to be more efficient and faster.

The District Chief Executive for Upper Manya Krobo Hon. Joe Sam speaking on behalf of the Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong, revealed that the district first had access to court services in 1956 in Awowosu but relocated in 1972 to the former Local Council infrastructure where justice has been administered to date.

He therefore commended government and chief Justice for the policy intervention to replace dilapidated court houses with modern ones to provide convenient environment and enhance access and efficiency in justice delivery to the people.

The President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and also the Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area Nene Sakite II called on traditional leaders and residents of his traditional area use the court system to address disputes instead of taking the laws into their hands.

“This court will resolve their problems if they get any legal issues they should go to court don’t sit home and fight over anything. If you cannot resolve it anywhere this is the place for you to come for justice. Don’t fight your neighbours don’t go trying to kill each other over issues that can be resolved amicably. We are peace loving people as Krobos if for one reason or the other there is an issue that cannot be handle in the family today I have commissioned a court for you to go over there to take care of all your legal problems not only problems but legal issues. It could be land , your properties , it could be your personal issues go to court even divorce come here and it will be resolved this is new and we thank God that we have one now so use it perfectly and don’t fight among each other” he concluded.
