The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has slammed the Minority over what he terms inconsistencies on the part of the NDC Members Parliament regarding the Free Senior High School Bill.
The Minority though has stated it’s not against the bill has had some of its members like the Ranking member for the education committee Peter Nortsu questioning the move since the policy is already catered for in the Pre-tertiary education act.
Addressing the media, the majority leader asked for clarity from the NDC MPs.
Afenyo-Markin revealed though the bill is yet to come to parliament, it has received cabinet approval.
“Seek clarification on the stands on the minority in respect of the free SHS bill. We have heard the ranking member on education the honorable member for Akatsi North, strongly opposing the free SHS bill.
“Clearly the NDC minority does not want to commit its self to free SHS and the fact that we want to enact a law to make it mandatory. We have stated time without number that those provisions in the constitution that talks about free SHS are very aspirational, their aspirational provisions so the way to go is to enact a law to regulate the free SHS policy which is currently in operation,” the Majority leader stated.
He continued: “The NDC is opposed to this and they have spoken through their ranking member, we want them to tell Ghanaians whether free SHS is not their priority as a responsible opposition, that’s all.”
