Security Analyst, Dr. Adam Bonaa says police personnel cannot engage in side jobs without formally notifying the Inspector General of Police.
The off-duty Police man Constable Smith Gyeki, who shot and killed a young man, Stanley Ahadzi Korku, over a Ghc200 transport fare disagreement has been arraigned at the Adabraka District Court.
The Police man who doubles as a ride-hailing driver shot the victim at Kuntunse in the Greater Accra Region.
Speaking on Morning Starr with Latamp Papanko, Dr. Bonaa urged heads of security agencies to crack the whip on personnel who engage in other side jobs without Tacit Approval from authorities.
“It’s just unfortunate that it has to get to this and for purposes of education again, police officers and security officials are not supposed to undertake any form of business without actually writing and asking, getting permission from the Inspector General of Police or the Comptroller of Immigration or Fire and the rest.
“So these are questions we need to ask again, apart from him doing this dastardly act. Did he have the permission to in fact procure the vehicle he’s using and to use it for business? Because he’s not supposed to do that until he’s given permission by the IGP to do that”, Dr. Bonaa stated.
He continued: “And so if he had this vehicle, his supervisors obviously, he’s assigned to a station somewhere. Those supervisors who are supposed to be supervising him, were they aware that when he closes from work, he jumps into his vehicle and drives it around to make money or they didn’t know? These are questions that probably we need to be asking.”
